A Magnificent Mid 18th Century Chimneypiece in Statuary Marble.
With heavily carved foliate pilasters headed by masks. Carved trusses support corner blocks carved with ewers. Richly figured convent Sienna marble flanks the pilasters and the central frieze tablet, which is of architectural form and is inset with Sicilian Jasper. The breakfront shelf incorporates rope twist carving. A chimneypiece with identical jambs can be seen in Shuffrey's 'The English Fireplace and Its Accessories'.
