A Fine and Important George III Carved Pine Chimneypiece by John Carr of York.
The stepped moulded shelf is punctuated with delicately executed acanthus and a bold acanthus leaf frieze. In exemplary condition having been stripped back to the raw pine, this chimneypiece was originally carved for Constable Burton Hall, a Georgian Country House in North Yorkshire designed by the architect John Carr in 1768. The house was commissioned by the Wyvill family who still privately owns it. With minor replacements to footblocks.
