An Exquisitely Executed Late 18th Century Chimneypiece.

An exceptional Neoclassical chimneypiece carved in white statuary marble with Siena marble inlays of the highest quality. The moulded breakfront shelf is supported by a frieze finely carved with floral motifs that continue on the central tablet, which depicts an oval portrait of a goddess in profile, possibly Flora. The cornerblocks with classical urns are separated from the fluted jambs by a fine acanthus leaf motif. The Siena inlay together with an egg and dart detail delicately frame the opening. The lightness of the ornaments of this chimneypiece vividly recall the Adam style that characterised the last quarter of the 18th century.
