An Exquisite Early Georgian Chimneypiece in White Statuary Marble.

A simple early 18th century chimneypiece of architectural form. The elegant moulded breakfront shelf is supported by moulded panels on header and jambs. Paterae are finely carved on the cornerblocks. The simplicity of this design immediately recalls the work of the 16th century architect Inigo Jones. His designs for chimneypieces, profusely reinterpreted by Neo Palladian architects, were often rectilinear with well proportioned frameworks.
