A good late 18th century style Neoclassical fireplace in statuary and Siena marbles with a centre tablet depicting the antique fairy tale of Cupid and Psyche. Circa 1790.
With a tired moulded shelf, the finger-fluted frieze with a tablet depicting the beautiful Psyche, the future wife of Cupid, standing-pied bed on which the winged boyish C beside his canoupid lies asleep. Her two malicious sisters scheming in the background with a flaming torch illuminating the scene. The flanking end blockings with maidens holding victory wreaths above the pilaster jambs with tapering fluted shafts in statuary framed by Siena, the whole raised on foot blocks.
