A Regency Statuary and Red Jasper Marble Chimneypiece

A Regency Statuary chimneypiece with carved central tablet, scagliola corner blocks and carved oakleaf jambs. The central tablet likely depicts Fortuna, the Goddess of abundance, faith, and most importantly, fortune. Fortuna was said to lead souls in their pursuit of happiness. She is flanked by panels of specimen Red Jasper marble, the sanguine tone and dense figuration of this stone, reflected artfully in the scagliola arabesque decoration on the corner blocks.
