This richly decorated, polished steel fire basket has delicately engraved legs, finials and pieced serpentine apron. Reminiscent of the fire, bright-cut steel work of Mathew Boulton in the 1770s, the design illustrates beautifully the Robert Adam inspired transition from the Palladian to Neoclassical style; with weight and power, yet light elegant lines, bound by strict classical proportions.
