This polished steel fire basket has a pierced, shaped apron decorated with dragons and leafy scrolls supported by fluted and stop-fluted columns. The Carron ironworks in Falkirk, Stirlingshire was founded in 1759 and was one of the oldest and most famous foundries in the world. Basket grates typified by the Millington were produced at the Carron works, where local iron, coal and transport were readily available.
