A handsome garden bench, made from solid English oak. There is a vernacular quality to the tall, fretwork back, the geometric pattern reminiscent of a spider’s web. Expertly joined and designed with comfort in mind, the original bench, from which this reproduction was drawn, came from Saltram House on the banks of the river Plym in Devon, a house which Robert Adam remodelled during the 1760s, employing Thomas Chippendale in the process to make much of the furniture.
