Scaled down from the original Heddon console, this smaller table retains the striking presence of its reproduction forebear. Modelled on an early eighteenth-century giltwood and gesso pier or console table, attributed to James Moore (c.1715), the table is present in the apartments of King George IV at Windsor Castle.
The handsome form of this table consists of square baluster tapering legs, a carved frieze and volute feet joined by a stretcher. This stretcher is carved with intricate strapwork and is connected by a central circle. The original table appears in For the King’s Pleasure (Hugh Roberts, 2001, p. 264), and the lustreful yet sober finish of our reproduction gesso and giltwood surface aims to emulate the untouched gilded surface of the eighteenth-century original.
