Stripped Pine Belton Console

This well drawn and handsomely scaled console table, with shaped volute cabriole legs carved with acanthus leaf and imbricated circle carvings on stepped chamfered feet, is taken from an 18th century original walnut model (c.1735) currently in the Royal Collection and attributed to Benjamin Goodison (cabinetmaker to King George II).

The stripped-pine surface of the legs and fluted apron, imitate the stripped pine of antique chimneypieces and mirrors stripped of their original painted surface, taking on a fine muted tone.
